The new Veteran’s Program proves to be a great asset to “Open The Gate, Inc.” as we join in the rehabilitation of our troops and their families now at home.

Our therapy sessions begin with an evaluation of each individual’s diagnosed disability establishing a therapeutic outline, a program with established goals to meet, a personal guide and/or counselor, the type of equine participation and which horse is suited best for the individual. Whether it is riding, using a cart or just starting out with some basic grooming and bonding.  

EMOTIONAL DISASTER RELIEF

Long after the initial disaster is over the memories remain for the victims and their families. The psychological impact of these traumatic events is overwhelming and can linger for years if not addressed. Those who survive endure fear, anxiety, rage, depression, a feeling of numbness, sleeplessness, and inability to function normally. The cumulative effects can result in increase in emotional distress that can debilitate is not given the proper attention and care.

Children are very effected by their surroundings and even though they don’t understand the meaning what happened they absorb the images that surround them and are deeply impacted by the emotions of the people they rely on for love and security.

Our program has seen the emotional devastation of these recent disasters and is now offering an emotional relief department to help alleviate the stress and strain associated with these disasters.

With the relief of negative emotion from natural homeopathic and equine assisted therapy the body’s own healing begins to process and the physical symptoms tend to become lessened until they finally disappear altogether.

We are in the process of acquiring a hydraulic hoist to ease the mounting of a horse for everyone involved in the program. Each Client will be taught how to use the hoist to groom, saddle, bridle, wash, mount and dismount their horse, thus giving a whole new aspect to the therapeutic riding adventure.
